The buzz surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
